Tennessee football: 5 Vols most likely to benefit from Jim Chaney hire

After a month and a half, Tennessee football has found its offensive coordinator. And the hire is a blast from the past in Jim Chaney. With this hire, Jeremy Pruitt made a surprise splash by sticking with the pro-style offense but getting a guy away from the Georgia Bulldogs.

Chaney was with the Vols from 2009 to 2013 under Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley. In his return under Pruitt, he is establishing a bit of continuity. Sure, parts of his system are different from Tyson Helton’s, but at least, as we said, it’s a pro-style.

That makes the transition much easier for the players, who don’t have to learn a completely new system for a third straight year.
