Tennessee DC Bob Shoop explains ‘disastrous ending’ against Florida

Tennessee defensive coordinator Bob Shoop said Florida’s last-second miracle pass wasn’t meant to go long. The only reason it did: Tennessee’s defense covered everything else.

Tennessee’s defensive coordinator took time Tuesday to discuss his perspective on the “disastrous ending” to Saturday’s loss to Florida.

“It’s my responsibility to finish those things,” Shoop said.

Shoop and coach Butch Jones have come under heavy criticism from Vols fans following the finish — a 63-yard pass from Feleipe Franks to Tyrie Cleveland behind the Tennessee defense as time expired.

Shoop said the Volunteers were expecting a short to medium-range pass from Florida, one that possibly would set up strong-legged Gators kicker Eddy Pineiro for a kick of 55 yards or so.
