Lester McClain’s pioneer ways lead him to Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Do you ever wonder what players say in a huddle?

Are they making fun of the opponent? Are they second-guessing their coach? Are they making post-game plans?

During a recent interview with former Tennessee receiver Lester McClain, the first black player for the Vols, a conversation came to light about a bizarre exchange in a game his senior season, when Tennessee hosted UCLA.

If this had happened in 2015, no telling who would have been fired or suspended. But since it happened more than 45 years ago, the statute of limitations has expired for all parties concerned.
