Former WBB Coach Hutson Dies

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Margaret Hutson, who served as women's basketball coach at the University of Tennessee from 1971-74, passed away on June 7.

In her four seasons as head coach, Hutson guided UT to a 60-19 record, including a 25-2 mark in 1974 before stepping down to pursue a Ph.D. Her performance was even more impressive, considering she arrived at Tennessee in the fall of 1970 to teach physical education courses and had no experience playing high school or college basketball.

Hutson's tenure was marked by the most wins in school history at that point and by successful lobbying and fund-raising efforts to enable the UT women to join the men's basketball team in wearing orange uniforms in competition.
