If Alabama ends up hiring former Tennessee coach Butch Jones as an offensive analyst instead of former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze, you can either credit or blame Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne.
News of Nick Saban hiring a former coach as an analyst is neither new nor shocking. Saban basically runs a rehab center for fired coaches, and his former analyst list includes new Tide offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, former offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian and Dan Werner.
Before Jones’ name surfaced in media reports, Freeze was rumored to be in line for an analyst job with the Tide.
