Women’s tennis has final fall tune-up before spring season

When sophomores Yana Khon and Alina Abdurakhimova took the court for their Thursday morning doubles match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Regional Championship, it wasn’t the first time the duo played together.

Both hailing from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Khon and Abdurakhimova have played together since childhood.

“They know where to move on the court,” coach Steve Mauro said. “Depending on where the ball is hit on the court, they know who should go for it. They each know their partner’s strengths and weaknesses.”

The pair won its Round of 64 double’s match against Old Dominion University’s Adriana Rajkovic and Natalia Vlasova Thursday before losing 8-1 against Marshall University’s Jackie Carr and Rachael Morales Friday.
