Before TCU football coach Gary Patterson became one of the longest tenured coaches in the country, he was once considered one of the nation's best assistants.
In 2000, Patterson was the Horned Frogs' defensive coordinator and was a finalist for the Broyles Award, which is named after legendary Arkansas coach Frank Broyles and given to the nation's top assistant coach.
Patterson reflected on Broyles' impact on the game following his death on Monday at the age of 92.
"He's one of those guys that when you think football, you think Bear Bryant, Broyles, those are the kind of names that come up," Patterson said.
