Senior guard Kenrich Williams had 23 points and 17 rebounds to lead the unbeaten TCU Horned Frogs over the New Mexico Lobos 69-67 in Friday’s first-round game of the Emerald Coast Classic.
TCU survived a stale finish that saw the Frogs score just two points in the final 4:49 and miss 5 of 6 free throw attempts in the game’s last half-minute.
The Frogs (5-0) will meet either St. Bonaventure or Maryland at 6 p.m. Saturday for the tournament championship. St. Bonaventure and Maryland played in Friday’s late game.
For Williams, a 6-foot-7 senior from Waco, it was only the third time in 75 career games he had scored as many as 20 points.
