TCU issued a statement Tuesday on the arrest of suspended wide receiver and return specialist KaVontae Turpin that occurred in March in Las Cruces, New Mexico, per the Fort Wort Star-Telegram.
"The football staff was aware there was an incident in New Mexico, but not that charges included an alleged battery," the school said, per the Star-Telegram. "The publicly available information they reviewed at the time only showed a charge related to property damage. We did not know until yesterday that his legal issues were unresolved."
An additional report from the Star-Telegram indicated that the TCU football coaching staff had known about the March incident for more than a month, but that Turpin lied about the nature of the alleged altercation when he was confronted about the matter.
