Funny how things work out, and never for the best when colleges passed on Gary Patterson. If Nebraska had hired him in 2008 instead of gum-chomping, top-blowing Bo Pelini, it could have saved itself some embarrassment. If Tennessee had picked Gary instead of Lane Kiffin in '09, Tennessee students wouldn't have freaked a year later, torching mattresses after Kiffin flaked out for USC. And if Kansas State had gone with one of its own rather than Ron Prince in '06, Bill Snyder could have remained happily retired.
