The surprises in the Big 12 men's preseason basketball poll begin after the top spot.
To no one's surprise, conference coaches picked Kansas to win its 14th consecutive regular-season conference title in the poll released Thursday. The Jayhawks got the maximum nine first-place votes, with coaches not allowed to vote for their own team. And as expected, West Virginia was second.
Then things got interesting. After having never been picked higher than eighth, TCU was No. 3.
Coming off an NIT championship in coach Jamie Dixon's first season, the Horned Frogs return all five starters.
Texas was next at fourth, an endorsement for coach Shaka Smart coming off a 22-loss last-place finish.
