Absolute madness took over in Week 9. 8 of the 10 possible eliminations hit, as favorites fell across the board and only Mountain West contenders Utah State and Fresno State survived spoiler opportunities. Their fellow MWC foe SDSU fell in Reno to close the week that started with Georgia Southern triumphing over Sun Belt rival App State. The elimination games had a common theme of visiting teams unable to survive the hostile road environment – Only Wazzu went on the road as an elimination candidate, to welcoming Palo Alto, and left alive. The Longhorns and Gators were the only top contenders to drop non-elimination games, putting them in the danger zone for the remainder of the season.
