Bracketology: Does Texas still have hope as Big 12 tournament looms?

The 2018-19 college basketball regular season has concluded, and less than a week remains until selection Sunday as conference tournaments take center stage.

And perhaps the biggest question: What will be the fate for Shaka Smart and the Texas Longhorns?

Fresh off a 69-56 home loss to TCU in its regular-season finale Saturday, Texas is only one game above .500 (16-15, 8-10 Big 12) entering the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City, Mo., this week. As of Monday morning, Texas had fallen to a No. 11 seed in the latest bracket projections from ESPN's Joe Lunardi, earning a rematch with 2018 first-round opponent Nevada, while the Longhorns no longer even listed as one of the first four teams out in Jerry Palm's bracket at CBSSports.
