The Rays’ playoff hopes may have just taken a big hit as the trade deadline nears

While they are still alive in the AL East, at this point it is more realistic for the Rays to focus on being one of the two Wild Card teams and another team’s recent decision has just made that a little more difficult.

Late last week, it looked like the Detroit Tigers could decide to blow up their roster and trade David Price and Yoenis Cespedes. Now, it is starting to sound more and more like that won’t happen. The latest comes from Joel Sherman.

This is huge for the Rays, not only because they are facing Price tonight, but because the Tigers are one of several teams the Rays are battling for the second Wild Card spot.
