The Tampa Bay Rays started by sending down Nate Lowe, the praised first base prospect was good this Spring but a logjam of talent ahead of him made his demotion almost inevitable.

There were still fourteen other roster casualties cutting the Tampa Bay Rays roster down to 40. That still leaves 15 casualties remaining ahead of opening day on March 28th.

Nate Lowe will still have a shot at the big league club if he performs well in Durham, in fact, you might contest this move is due to service time, though I would disagree.

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters yesterday: “I told him he probably is going to be the one that ultimately drives the decision” on when he gets called up,’’ That leaves the door open for him to get a quick call up if the Rays struggle at the dish as he tears it up in Triple-A.
