The Tampa Bay Rays have designated shortstop, Adeiny Hechavarria, for assignment.
The Rays needed to clear a spot on the active roster with the addition of Tommy Pham, who is in tonight’s starting lineup in left field and hitting cleanup. According to Marc Topkin, the Rays front office did everything they could to find a new home for Hechavarria prior to yesterday’s trade deadline, but were unable to find any suitors willing to make a trade.
