On Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers designated Sergio Romo for assignment. A free agent signee following nine typically strong years with the Giants, Romo was a disaster in Los Angeles. In his 30 games, he produced a miserable 6.12 ERA and a 1.400 WHiP. He still struck out 31 batters in his 25 innings, but showed an uncharacteristic lack of command, with 12 walks and seven homers allowed.
However, given his previous track record of success, it was likely that some team would be interested in taking a chance on the former Giants closer. The Tampa Bay Rays are doing just that, having acquired Romo from the Dodgers in exchange for the always popular cash considerations.
