Still ascending, Rays MVP Forsythe heads to top of the order

PORT CHARLOTTE — Perhaps the best measure of just how far Logan Forsythe’s career has traveled in a year’s time, aside from his multi-year contract, of course, is that the Rays are looking at him as a leadoff hitter.

The move to the top of the order could give Forsythe an extra 75 at-bats over the course of the season.

“He’s a guy that we want as many at-bats as possible,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said.

Forsythe was a utility player at this point last spring. His break came when Nick Franklin pulled his oblique late in spring training.
