St. Pete councilman outlines plan to end city's impasse with Rays

ST. PETERSBURG — Councilman Jim Kennedy, a stalwart opponent of any proposal to release the Rays from their stadium agreement, on Friday revealed details of the plan he hopes can end the five-year impasse between the city and the baseball team.

His agreement would allow the team to look for stadium sites in Tampa Bay but would require larger compensation payments for the city if the Rays end up moving to Hillsborough County.

In that instance the team would pay $4 million to the city for every year remaining on its stadium-use contract that runs through 2027.
