Betts was removed in the fifth inning of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with what the Red Sox characterized as a bruised right thumb. Betts appeared to be injured when he was hit by the tag while running out a ground ball in the fourth inning.
Rajai Davis replaced Betts in right field.
Betts has been on a hot streak recently. He was 0-for-2 Sunday, but over his previous 10 games, he was 14-for-44 (.318) with three doubles, one triple, four homers and 12 RBIs.
"He's in a 10-day run here where we're seeing the guy we saw for two years leading into this year," Red Sox manager John Farrell said on Saturday night.
