Souza, Longo homer as Odorizzi stymies A's

OAKLAND -- Home runs by Steven Souza Jr. and Evan Longoria helped the Rays secure a series-opening victory over the A's behind a stellar Jake Odorizzi, who spun seven one-run innings in a 3-2 win at the Coliseum on Monday night.

Odorizzi held the A's to one hit, Khris Davis' 26th home run of the season with one out in the fourth inning. The right-hander struck out five and walked two in the win, which moved Tampa Bay within two games of the American League East-leading Red Sox. Rays closer Alex Colome allowed one run in the ninth, with Yonder Alonso doubling and scoring on a wild pitch, but limited the damage to notch his 27th save.
