ST. PETERSBURG -- Steven Souza Jr. was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to Wednesday) with a left hip strain after getting up awkwardly on a play in the outfield on Tuesday. Blake Snell, who was called up to be the starting pitcher on Thursday, will take his spot on the roster.
The right fielder was hitting .255 with 10 homers and 25 RBIs. He dove for a ball in right field in the seventh inning of an 8-7 win, but he fell back to the turf as he tried to get up.
