Snell fine in debut, but bullpen sputters as Rays lose to N.Y.

NEW YORK – Rays rookie Blake Snell turned in an impressive major league debut this afternoon at Yankee Stadium. Too bad the Rays bullpen couldn’t get the kid the victory.

Brett Gardner’s walk-off homer with two out in the bottom of the ninth gave the Yankees a 3-2 win.

Erasmo Ramirez suffered his first loss of the season.

Snell retired the first two batters he faced before walking Carlos Beltran. Mark Teixeira sent Beltran to third with a single. From there, Beltran scored when a pitch skipped past catcher Hank Conger.

The Rays tied the score in the third inning on doubles by Logan Morrison and Corey Dickerson.
