Cosart left his last start on Thursday after just four innings when he was struck by a liner in the left forearm. However, he avoided serious injury, suffering a left forearm contusion.
Smyly held the Red Sox scoreless on five hits and three walks, while striking out seven, on Wednesday en route to his fourth win of the season.
