NEW YORK -- Rays left fielder Mallex Smith left Thursday night's game against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium after the top of the third inning with right hamstring tightness.
Smith beat out an infield single in the second and later got caught in a rundown trying to reach third on an RBI single by Jesus Sucre. He appeared to feel some pain after the play, which ended the inning.
Smith played in the field in the bottom of the second, but Peter Bourjos took his place in left in the bottom of the third.
