Quarterback Jameis Winston — wearing a red Bucs cap — was an invited guest of the New York Yankees and threw the ceremonial first pitch prior to Thursday night’s exhibition game against the Rays at Steinbrenner Field.
It appeared to be a low strike from Winston, who pitched for Florida State’s baseball team. He also led FSU’s football team to a national championship and won the Heisman Trophy during the 2013 season.
He pitched under the watchful eye of Rays manager Kevin Cash, also a former FSU baseball player.
“It’s great to be back on the diamond,” said Winston, who added it was his first ceremonial first pitch.
