Rays streaks come to an end with 7-2 loss to Padres

SAN DIEGO — Jalen Beeks did pitcher better Wednesday, as manager Kevin Cash predicted, getting through five innings for the first time in more than three months.

But he still didn’t pitch well enough, as the Rays lost the game to the Padres 7-2, and with it their chance for the best two-city road trip in franchise history.

Instead they finished 5-1 on their country-crossing journey to Seattle and San Diego, their overall winning streak ending at five and their team-record road run at nine games.

They headed home 71-51 and in control of the second AL wild card, with a weekend series against the Tigers starting Friday.
