The Rays signed their No. 1 pick in the 2016 Draft, Joshua Lowe, the club announced Friday. He will report to the Rookie-level GCL Rays.

The deal reportedly is for $2.6 million, below the slot value of $3,098,900 for the No. 13 overall pick.

The Gatorade Player of the Year in Georgia, Lowe, a third baseman from Pope High School, led his team to the Georgia 6A championship game. The 18-year-old had committed to play for Florida State, but instead opted to sign with the Rays.

Lowe, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound left-handed hitter, has raw power and plus speed.
