Rays rained out, posing problem for pitching rotation

BALTIMORE -- Saturday’s rain-out further complicates the Rays pitching plans for this upcoming homestand.

Rays left-hander Drew Smyly, who all ready warmed up Saturday for his start, will pitch Wednesday.

That buys the Rays more time to decide on a fifth starter, which they will need next weekend.

Because of eight off days during the first 47 games of the season, the Rays are using a four-man rotation. They would be forced to use a fifth start this week since Tuesday’s game against the visiting Indians opens a six-game home stand.

Before Saturday’s wash-out, the Rays scheduled Matt Moore for Tuesday and Chris Archer for Thursday.
