For the 11th straight season, the Tampa Bay Rays will open their home schedule in front of a sellout crowd at Tropicana Field.
The team announced Monday that Opening Day against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday is officially sold out.
According to the Rays, it is the longest home-opener sellout streak among the major sports franchises in the Tampa area. It is also the fourth earliest date the Rays have announced a sellout for the home opener, behind 1998 (Dec. 6), 2009 (Feb. 26) and 2012 (Feb. 29).
Last year’s home opener against the Baltimore Orioles drew a crowd of 31,042, one of two sellouts at Tropicana Field last season.
