Rays offense disappoints again as Blue Jays win 6-1

ST. PETERSBURG -- Drew Smyly gave up a pair of solo home runs Friday night, and those typically do not hurt a starting pitcher when spread over six innings.

But they hurt Smyly, because the Rays offense once again failed to come up with a clutch hit during a trio of clutch situations.

The result was a 6-1 victory by the Blue Jays in front of 13,679 at Tropicana Field.

Smyly allowed home runs to Michael Saunders and Josh Donaldson, and little else.

He struck out eight to bring his monthly total to 41. That tied David Price for the team record in strikeouts for the month of April, which Price set in 2014.
