BOSTON — Manager Kevin Cash said during spring training that 1B Steve Pearce would get plenty of starts this season, facing both left-handed and right-handed pitchers. But so far, Pearce has only started against lefties.
That could change, and it could change soon.
Pearce, who started Thursday against Red Sox LHP David Price and will start again tonight against Yankees LHP CC Sabathia, when the Rays begin a three-game series in New York, might start one of the remaining two games even though the Yankees are scheduled to start right-handers.
Cash has kept 1B Logan Morrison in the lineup against righties despite Morrison’s awful start to the season — 2-for-40, 17 strikeouts.
