Rays Notes: Issues remain for trip to Cuba

PORT CHARLOTTE — Tony Clark, the executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association, said there are issues that have to be worked out regarding the Rays’ trip to Cuba in March. He said he remained “hopeful and optimistic that we can work through those and that the game itself will take place.”

The Rays are scheduled to play the Cuban national team on March 22 in Havana. The official announcement of the trip was expected to be made this week.

“There are a lot of logistics, a lot of people involved, a lot of concerns and a lot of sensitivities, and those, often times, take a lot of time to work through,” Clark said.
