ST. PETERSBURG — Alonso High product Jose Fernandez makes his second career start at Tropicana Field tonight during the finale of this three-game series.
The Marlins right-hander remembers the first time he pitched at the Trop.
“Oh, how can I forget?,” Fernandez asked.
Pitching with a large gathering of family and friends, Fernandez set the Rays down in order in the first inning.
“The best first inning I’ve ever thrown in my life,” he said Wednesday. “But after that, it was just bad.”
Then came the second inning. It went like this: walk, walk, hit by pitch, sacrifice fly, single, throwing error on a bunt, strikeout, three-run homer and ground out.
