ST. PETERSBURG — Rays DH Joey Butler made the most of his first start since Aug. 31 on Sunday when he blasted a pair of home runs, including the Rays first grand slam of the season, in a 12-3, season-ending victory against the Blue Jays.
“On a scale of one to 10, that’s probably a 12,” Butler said.
Butler’s grand slam came during a nine-run first inning against Jays LHP Mark Buehrle. It was the first grand slam by a Ray since CF Kevin Kiermaier hit one against the Royals on July 9, 2014, a span of 229 games.
