PORT CHARLOTTE — Remember RHP Brad Boxberger’s ninth-inning throwing error last July 4 at Yankee Stadium on a bunt by Ramon Flores that allowed the Yankees to score the winning run in a 3-2 victory? Boxberger does, and that is the reason he is working this spring on his defense.
“I feel like last year and in years past it has cost me a couple of games here and there,” Boxberger said. “Being able to eliminate those errors in those games, shorten the game down and not give them any extra outs. An extra out in the ninth inning is not going to do anybody any good.
