Rays Notes: Archer pitches better, but gets same result

ST. PETERSBURG — RHP Chris Archer allowed 10 base runners Thursday and took the loss as the Rays dropped a thoroughly one-sided 6-0 affair to the Indians.

But, he battled the Indians, pitching his way out of jams in the first and second innings and limiting the damage to an unearned run in the fifth.

“I thought Arch competed really well,” manager Kevin Cash said. “Whether we put him in a jam or he put himself in a jam, he was making some big pitches.”

Archer thought he showed progress from his first two outings of the season, which was his goal heading into the game.
