ST. PETERSBURG — Take spring training stats for what they are, but LHP Drew Smyly held opponents to a .147 average with a 0.65 WHIP during his five Grapefruit League starts.
That’s enough to make any pitcher eager to begin the regular season. But Smyly, who debuts tonight against the Blue Jays, found something else to like this spring.
“I guess just making it out healthy and staying strong,” he said. “I feel great. My arm feels great. Just kind of start it the way I left off last season. I’m very anxious to continue it this year.
