Rays notebook: Forsythe off to great start

ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays took the somewhat atypical step of making 2B Logan Forsythe a leadoff hitter for the simple reason they want him to get as many at-bats as possible.

And while the offense sputtered through the first month of the season, the decision to move Forsythe to the top of the order has worked.

Forsythe, who leads the team with a .337 average, is batting .364 during the first inning, having gone 8-for-22 with a walk, a double and four strikeouts. He’s 4-for-6 when leading off games on the homestand with a double. He singled in the first inning of all three games against the Blue Jays.
