Rays notebook: Foley will help get Miller up to speed

PORT CHARLOTTE — After making three throwing errors in his five games this spring, SS Brad Miller will begin working on his defense with bench and infield coach Tom Foley.

“It’s nothing to panic about,” Foley said. “He just got frustrated because camp started out ugly for him. He’s being tough on himself. We’re just going to go out and do some things and go from there.”

Miller had issues making throws during his three seasons as the Mariners’ shortstop.

One reason the Rays were willing to acquire Miller in the November trade was because the organization believes Foley, who played 463 games at short during his 13-year big league career, is one of the best coaches in the major leagues at teaching infield defense.
