ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays set season-highs for runs and home runs Saturday and did just enough offensively Sunday to win back-to-back games.
With the way the bats performed over the first 10 games, that can be considered progress.
The Rays entered play Monday last among the 15 American League teams in hits (80), batting average (.212) and on-base percentage (.268) and 14th in runs (34) and walks (25).
C Curt Casali (.150), C Hank Conger (.188), CF Kevin Kiermaier (.172), SS Brad Miller (.114) and 1B Logan Morrison (.063) are all batting under .200. Kiermaier has five hits this season – three coming in the second game of the year.
