PORT CHARLOTTE — Taylor Motter is a free spirit in a game that doesn’t encourage free spirits. He walks the fine line between being goofy and annoying, different and defiant.
“Sometimes,” he admits, “I flirt with it a little bit.”
Motter wears his hair long enough to tickle the letters that spell his name on the back of his jersey. Laughter follows him around the Rays clubhouse. Is there a player in camp having more fun than Motter? Probably not.
“We want our guys to be who you are and find that comfort and that confidence to allow you to go do what you need to do,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said.
