Rays' fortunes shift badly in ninth-inning loss to Blue Jays

ST. PETERSBURG — After the game, after he talked about how well Marcus Stroman and Jake Odorizzi pitched, and after he talked about how quiet the offense was again, Rays manager Kevin Cash got around to what really upset him about Sunday’s loss to the Blue Jays.

It was his decision in the ninth inning to play the infield back with the bases loaded, and put the fielders in the shift used against right-handed hitters.

The Rays were playing for the double play and Edwin Encarnacion hit the ball to Logan Forsythe — the one fielder who couldn’t turn two.
