Rays' five-run lead squandered away

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Tigers erased a five-run deficit in the ninth inning to take a 10-7 win over the Rays on Thursday night at Tropicana Field.

The Rays appeared to have the game salted away, as Matt Andriese had tossed three scoreless innings of relief and had thrown just 29 pitches, but manager Kevin Cash opted to start the top of the ninth with Ryan Garton since Tampa Bay had built a 7-2 lead. The Tigers greeted him with four straight hits to cut the lead to 7-3. Erasmo Ramirez took over with the bases loaded and no outs to face Justin Upton.
