Rays, finally, trade Hechavarria – to Pirates

The Rays finally found a new home for SS Adeiny Hechavarria, trading him and cash to the Pirates for minor-league RHP Matt Seelinger.

The Rays DFA'd Hechavarria on Wednesday after being unable to find a taker at the trade deadline.

Seelinger, 23, is 1-3, 3.03 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings for Class-A West Virginia, converting seven save opportunities.

Hechavarria hit .258 with a .289 on-base and .332 slugging percentage with seven doubles, three home runs and 26 RBI in 61 games while playing top-notch defense for the Rays. He was dropped to clear the path for rookie Willy Adames to take over at shortstop.
