New Milwaukee general manager David Stearns made his first significant addition to the front office with the hiring of Matt Arnold as vice president and assistant general manager.
Arnold joins Milwaukee following nine years with the Tampa Bay Rays organization. The 36-year-old Arnold most recently served as Tampa Bay’s director of player personnel.
Stearns says Arnold has been involved in nearly every area of baseball operations during his career, including contract negotiation and farm system evaluation. Arnold also has worked with the Dodgers, Rangers and Reds.
The Brewers on Tuesday dismissed farm director Reid Nichols and reassigned longtime assistant GM Gord Ash, who both served under Stearns’ predecessor, Doug Melvin.
