Rays eke past Red Sox after sloppy 7th

BOSTON -- Neither the Red Sox nor the Rays are likely to feature to Friday night's game on any sort of defensive highlight reel.

Despite committing three errors in the seventh inning and nearly forking over a five-run lead, Tampa Bay pulled out a 5-4 win at Fenway Park that featured numerous defensive miscues from both sides.

For six innings, the story of Friday's game was Rays starter Alex Cobb, who had held Boston to one hit through one out in the seventh. But a bizarre Red Sox rally that featured two doubles, an infield single, a walk and an almost comical barrage of sloppy defense earned Boston four runs and knocked Cobb from the game.
