Rays drop into last place with loss to Red Sox

BOSTON — It was a night fit for a Devil Ray.

The Rays were eliminated from the AL East race Monday, though that was all but a mathematical formality, and they dropped into last place this late in the season for the first time since 2007 when the players wore green and winning seasons was just a folly.

Former Ray David Price helped take care the divisional stuff when he beat the Yankees in Toronto, and Xander Bogaerts took care of the standings with a grand slam in the eighth inning off Brandon Gomes that capped Boston's second comeback of the night as the Red Sox won 8-7 at Fenway Park.
