RHP Alex Cobb and RHP Chase Whitely took big steps in their comebacks from Tommy John surgery Tuesday when both threw 20 fastballs while standing halfway up the bullpen mounds.
“I think from here on out, things are going to start speeding up a little bit,” Cobb said.
The plan calls for two more throwing sessions off the half-mound, then a move to the rubber. Once there, the pitchers will begin throwing all their pitches.
“Before you know it, you’re facing hitters and real baseball is being played,” Cobb said.
A late-July return is still in the plans for Cobb, who has not pitched in a major league game since September 2014.
