Rays Beat: Crawford omission from Franchise Four surprising

TORONTO — When I first heard that Major League Baseball wanted fans to vote for the Franchise Four — the top four players for each team — I figured the Rays’ quartet would start with Carl Crawford.

I was wrong.

The four announced on the day of the All-Star Game were Evan Longoria, David Price, James Shields and Ben Zobrist.

Crawford, along with Carlos Peña, Scott Kazmir and B.J. Upton, did not make the cut.

Now, I’m not criticizing anyone who voted and did not vote for Crawford. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect that.
